Dr. Angelos Stergiou is the Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of SELLAS Life Sciences Group. He has nearly 15 years of experience with international biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, and he has experience with all major global health authorities.
Education and Career
Angelos Stergiou began his schooling in Germany, where he attended high school until coming to the United States as an exchange student who would graduate from Boardman High School in Boardman, Ohio. He then moved on to his college education.
Dr. Angelos Stergiou, a graduate from Kentucky Wesleyan College has also completed elective clinical work in interventional cardiology-surgery at the University of Cologne as well as in in Hagen, Germany and received an Honorary Doctorate degree in Sciences by Kentucky Wesleyan.
Dr. Angelos M. Stergiou has held roles ranging from Medical Director to Head of Clinical Research, with responsibilities in medical affairs, development, clinical research, pharmacovigilance, project management, biostatistics, clinical operations, regulatory affairs and CMC, or chemistry manufacturing and controls.
Angelos Stergiou has led and overseen research endeavors in all phases of clinical development in numerous international positions and he has collaborated with the largest international academic institutions on clinical research endeavors.
Alongside his friend and colleague, Dr. Miltos K. Sugiultzoglu, MD, Dr. Stergiou founded SELLAS Life Sciences Group. Presently, he holds the titles of CEO and Vice Chairman of the company.
Through SELLAS Life Sciences Group, Dr. Stergiou is pushing the field of cancer epitope immunotherapeutic and cancer vaccinations to the future. The company has developed the WT1 polypeptide, multivalent cancer vaccine with promising clinical data to date and had also lead and developed another autologous personal cancer vaccine, for which he holds a patent on, in the indication of follicular Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.
Angelos Stergiou was born and raised in Germany, where his parents worked to build a future for he and his sister after moving to the country from Greece. Angelos Stergiou was Capitan of his basketball team, Brandt Hagen, and he played with names such as Marko Pesic while there. Partway through high school, he came to the United States as an exchange student.
During his college schooling with Kentucky Wesleyan, Dr. Angelos M. Stergiou enjoyed gathering with professors and friends to discuss science, medicine, philosophy, religion and life.Today, he is married to a cosmetic dentist, Maria Anna, who accompanies him on international travel whenever possible. In his spare time. Dr. Angelos Stergiou can be found at the theater or gym, or in his home reading and travelling.
